Here's Why I Love My Favorite Black Dress

posted on 23 September 2012

My favorite ladies fashion item is a simple black dress. I can wear it with any of my ladies shoes and it always compliments my footwear. I originally bought it to wear to a late Summer wedding. I wore it there and got lots of compliments. Since then, I have worn it to many, many other occasions. I have found that it is great to wear in the summer since it's sleeveless and a light material. It is also great to wear in the winter time because it is a little bit longer and is a dark color. In the summer I wear it alone, or with a light sweater or scarf. In the winter I can wear it with tights and a thicker sweater. I am a teacher and I love to wear it to school sometimes. It makes me feel a little bit dressed up, but it's still comfortable! I would buy another one if I could! - in fact I'd love one for every day of the week!Other Sources: apple.com | babble.com | www.shoezone.comOther Sources: wellsfargo.com | rottentomatoes.com | flickr.com | itv.comFurther Reading: metacafe.com | usmagazine.com | thefreedictionary.com | city-data.comMore on this Topic: rottentomatoes.com | mapquest.com | shopzilla.comFurther Reading: mashable.com | cnbc.com | discovery.comFurther Research: huffingtonpost.com | goodreads.com

Super Duper Extra Comfortable Walking Shoes

posted on 28 July 2012

My Geox sneakers are my favourite pair of shoes. Unlike the heavy duty Doc Martin’s boots that I typically wear during the Spring, Fall and Winter months because they are waterproof (and sometimes even mens wellies when the weather is really inclement), my Geox sneakers fall on the opposite side of the spectrum. They are super light, and extra comfy. I especially like that they are slip-ons, and as such don’t require time to lace up. The best part is the moisture membrane that allows the shoes to breath. It’s a one-way membrane like Goretex that allows moisture to leave the shoes, but prevents it from getting in. This has the benefit of keeping my feet cooler during the summer. I’ve now bought two pairs of Geox sneakers in subsequent years, and must say the styling is great. They styling is subdued, but definitely casual and stylish in their own way. They are great shoes that I would recommend to anyone.Other Sources: wikia.com | babble.com | www.steadandsimpson.comMore on this Topic: babble.com | uncoverthenet.com | wikihow.com

Dark Blue Faded Denim and Cotton

posted on 7 July 2012

My favorite materials are the ones that I tend to wear the most. Every-day use means that I like something that is comfortable, sophisticated and not too shabby. When I buy dressmaking fabric, it's either cotton or lace. Having said that, denim jeans seem to be my favorite item of clothing just lately. The feel and look of denim is one of my favorites when it comes to clothes. Dark, faded denim can look nice and also expensive if it has been produced right. On the other hand, light or strong blue denim can sometimes look shabby. I feel that denim only looks right when it is fitted tight. If it is loose fit and drapes around my ankles it makes me feel uncomfortable and self-conscious. My other new favorite material is cotton. I personally think that when combined with a good washing powder, cotton can feel very soft and light on the skin, making it perfect for everyday use. Cotton is also generally cheaper when buying clothes, which means that I can afford to buy more clothes produced with my favorite material!

Fave Footwear: My Emerica Shoes

posted on 4 March 2012

I'm a footwear fanatic, and have a wide range of tastes - from black pumps to heels. My favourite shoes are a pair of emerica shoes. Emerica is a skateboarding company and the shoes are technically designed for skateboarding although I never use them for that. Emerica is run by Pierre André Senizergues a retired professional skateboarder, the larger company Sole Technology inc. also owns etnies and es as well as other popular skateboarding shoes. Emerica was established in 1996 and produce mainly foot wear as well as other apparel such as shirts and pants. Sole technologies has a lab called Sole tecnology Institue (STI) Lab they researched the STI foam footbed which is designed to reduce pressure as well as other shock absorbtion technologies. It was these developments that led to the amazingly comfortable pair of shoes that I own today. The foam footbed makes it feel as though I'm walking on a comfortable gym mat. The shoes are brown leather which allows them to be easily cleaned and have lasted over a year of fairly constant wear.More on this Topic: digg.com | mashable.com | cnbc.com

The One and Only Rule of Style

posted on 28 February 2012

No matter what you've been told by fashion magazines, store clerks or style divas, there is only one rule of style and it is this: be yourself. It doesn't matter what clutch bags you carry, or the brands of the clothes you wear - it's HOW you wear them. There is no point in copying someone else's dress or look. Experiment and wear clothing that you like, no matter the reason. Be bold and don't be afraid to go against the grain. No one notices the people who try to blend in, so stand out and be unique. Remember that fashion and style are expressions of our personalities and sporting your own individual style is almost like participating in free speech. You are telling your peers who you think you are by the way that you dress. Always remember to enjoy the ability to add color, ruffles, stripes or sparkles to any outfit, and take it upon yourself to create a personal look that will always set you apart from the crowd. If you do this, you will always be in style.

Leggings are Great for Day or Night, Casual or Fabulous

posted on 27 February 2012

One of my favorite fashion items are leggings. They are incredibly comfortable, and they aren’t just for working out anymore! Leggings can be seen on even the most fashionable people! Black leggings are my favorite, as they are the most usable. You can pair black leggings under a long shirt or wear them underneath a skirt or dress (like my favourite Forever Unique ones). Other great colors for leggings include brown, navy, and eggplant. If you want to get really adventurous, you can find leggings in all colors of the rainbow. Tall boots are great for long leggings, while sandals and flats look great if your leggings cut off mid-calf. A vital tip when purchasing leggings is to pay attention to the thickness of the material. You don’t want to buy leggings that are so thin that they are see-through, unless you only plan to wear them with a skirt or dress on top. If you get leggings designed for exercising, they will be made in a way so that you don’t even have to wear underwear with them and worry about having lines on your behind.

The Great Outdoors, Get Healed by Mother Nature

posted on 24 February 2012

I have always suffered with a number of illnesses, mainly due to my terrible immune system. The thing is, I am mostly at home, 90% of the time. I get sick without even stepping foot outside the door, so I was always feeling low about this. One day I was asked to go on a camping trip, I decided to go as I really haven't been before. I shopped for some outdoor clothing before going on the trip - I wanted to look the part! After 3 days of being in the great wide open, I felt something I never have before, I felt rejuvenated... My Asthma was nowhere in sight, my skin wasn't itchy, my nose wasn't runny! It was unbelievable. Ever since, I've been camping about a dozen times and I think it truly has turned my life around. I owe it all to the friends who dragged me out camping and of course, I owe it to Mother Nature and her hearing ways! Give the outdoors a try if you have a weakened immune system.

Brown Scarves: The Perfect Color and Accessory for Colder Seasons

posted on 11 February 2012

Although, blue is my favorite color, I prefer to wear brown pashminas. Whenever I see someone wearing a scarf, it is usually during the fall or winter seasons. After all, people do not usually wear scarves during the scorching heat. Neutral colors such as brown, tan and beige are perfect for the colder seasons, especially in the fall when the leaves have turned a similar color and are gently falling from the trees. I have always been the type of person who chooses her wardrobe according to the seasons. So, in summer and spring I wear bright colors like hot pink, purple, light green, orange and yellow. However, once fall and winter arrive, I like to adorn myself in more indistinct colors such as: brown, forest green, deep maroon, burnt orange and black. Out of all of these colors, brown is the most ideal hue for my light-caramel complexion. Thus, when it is cold outside you can rest assured that I wear more brown than any other color. I have also found that brown blends wonderfully with many other autumn-like colors and I never feel as if my brown scarf overpowers my outfit. Brown is one of the most modest shades there is and it should not be surprising that I find brown scarves to be both the perfect color and the perfect accessory to keep me warm during colder seasons.

On the Versatility of the Leather Jacket

posted on 31 January 2012

My leather jacket is precious to me. Although I got it from a cheap, mainstream store, its style is not at all ordinary. It goes so well with my ankle boots and other shoes and accessories I own. Although it is not actual leather, but rather a synthetically produced plastic, the material provides all of the benefits of leather with none of the costs or ethical problems. As for style itself, the leather jacket can be used in various circumstances. Paired with high heels and a miniskirt, it's a very feminine, daring, and flirty accessory. With worn-out jeans and black boots, it's like a rebel yell, letting me stand out from the crowd. However, although leather jackets may often be associated with crime and low status, if worn with a bright skirt and a neat top it only adds class and taste to an outfit. But none of this compares with the sentimental value of my precious leather jacket - through thick and thin, it has sheltered me from rain and wind, given me confidence to stand up for myself, and more importantly, to express myself.

Lucy's Going Away Present: a Tan Leather Bag

posted on 31 January 2012

I've been working at the university for almost a quarter of a century, so I a number of people have come and gone through my office. Lucy was a professor and I worked in her research group. She was what is known as an elegant lady, always dressed well in trendy wear. Just before retiring she gave me a box wrapped in navy blue paper. On opening it I discovered an assortment of things including books, some costume jewellery, a mouse pad depicting the Eiffel Tower, two silk shirts and matching scarfs and right there on the bottom, a tan leather handbag. I knew that the handbag was bought on a high street in Paris. It had a long adjustable handle. The bottom half of the bag was leather while the top half was a soft suede that could either be folded into the rest of the main body or extended for more room. I had seen that bag full of papers, tests, money or just the simple things people find in a woman's purse, glasses, a notebook, phone, keys and spare change. I had always loved that bag and now it was given to me. It was as good as new, as were most of Lucy's things. She was giving it to me because she new I would appreciate the gesture and not think of it as a hand me down. I was quite thoughtful of taking the bag to work, since I didn't want anyone to recognize it. But one Monday morning as I was running late and didn't have the time to shift my things into another purse, I grabbed it along with my keys and went to work. That of course was the day when everybody had to parade through my office for this or for that. A few people did notice the bag. One professor commented on how nice it looked hanging there next to my coat. Someone else even put it on her shoulder to size it up. No-one recognized it. No-one connected it to Lucy who had left only a few months ago. That was why she had given the tan bag to me. She knew I loved it although I was the only person in the building who was not in the least interested in fashion and in good looks. I still carry the bag. I love it. It goes with anything I wear, especially with the jeans I usually wear. I can put anything in it and wear it on one shoulder or over my head. And every time I send a loving thought to Lucy.More on this Topic: csmonitor.com | www.preciousbags.co.ukFurther Reading: investopedia.com | newsvine.com | peoplefinders.com

Sensational Sunglasses, My Favourite Accessory

posted on 29 January 2012

One of the most underappreciated articles of fashion are sunglasses. While they can be useful for keeping the sun out of your eyes, they add a particular flair to whoever is wearing them. Whether they are covering your eyes for a secret-agent sort of look, or perched atop your head as an added hairpiece, sunglasses are perfect for just about any occasion. Of course, the style and design of the sunglasses will have to change depending on the circumstance. For instance, for a night on the town, a fun, flirty pair of sunglasses, preferably something with studs on them. For a day at the beach however, a smaller pair of sassy and seductive shades are perfect for looking hot - especially if you're wearing one of those wooden bead necklaces - and still maintaining safe UV levels. People are often afraid of wearing sunglasses because of the potential for embarrassing tan lines. With as many different ways as you can wear sunglasses, this should not be a problem. If you’re looking for a fun and exciting fashion accessory, just reach for a pair of sunglasses!

My Halloween Fancy Dress Costume: a Zombie

posted on 29 January 2012

Last Halloween was our first Halloween in our own house, and we really went to town. Since we were planning to strip the wallpaper, we had a once in a lifetime opportunity to paint the walls black, and we made the most of it. The only thing is, it got to the morning of the party and I realised that the one thing I hadn't thought of any fancy dress ideas at all. My husband's face-saving suggestion, thrown together in half an hour, was the zombie costume, as follows: Clothes - my gardening shorts, comfortable and already irredeemably stained with grass, mud, paint and wood preservative, and a T-shirt so old that I didn't mind ripping a few (carefully placed) holes in it and spattering it with fake blood and green face-paint. Hair - a couple of handfuls of hair-gel and fake blood, haphazardly applied. Makeup - swirls of whatever face-paint and fake blood came to hand applied to all exposed skin. This was where the zombie suggestion came into its own - it should have taken me a couple of hours to do a thorough job on my arms and legs, if I'd been attempting to achieve an even colour. As it was the paint went on in a rush, and resulted in a splendid, smeared, just-dragged-from-the-grave look.More Info: gizmodo.com | pinterest.com

Gift-Buying: My Theory, Experience, and Expectation

posted on 26 January 2012

I like to think of myself as a connoisseur of gift-buying. Each gift that I purchase will go through a series of time-proven consideration method that I have boiled down to a science. Sometimes I even produce my own gifts with my jewellery making supplies too. First, I’ll learn about that special person’s current likes and dislikes, as well as things that he/she might need or want. Next, I’ll consider my own budget and how much I’m willing to spend on this gift (in other words, how nice they have been). Lastly, I’ll wrap that perfect gift in the prettiest wrapping paper and if I’m feeling inspired, I might even throw in a home-made card for good measure. Female friends and family members normally receive fashion items, ranging from scarves and hair accessories, to handbags and jewelries. Gifts for their male counterparts usually consist of fashion items, like a shirt, wallet, and belt, or electronics, like MP3 players and computer peripherals. Other special events, such as wedding anniversary or graduation, may deserve something more lavish, like flowers or home-made baked goods. I sure hope that my friends and family think I’m the awesome gift-buyer that I think I am...
