Keep Your Home Warm Without Spending a Fortuneposted on 4 April 2013 in Home and GardenThe biggest enemy in the battle to keep your house warm is the problem of drafts that enter through ill-fitting windows and doors. These can literally suck the warm air out of your home and let the cold air in. There are many solutions to this on the market and many are inexpensive - don't think that your doors and windows have to be replaced. A good craft solution to drafty doors is to sew a 'sausage' of fabric that will fit beneath your exterior doors. Stuff the 'sausage' with old rags and it will keep drafts away. Use a fabric that blends with your decor. Heavy curtains are invaluable when it comes to keeping the heat in your home. These can often be bought inexpensively and remember to keep them closed during cold weather. Smart crafters may be able to make their own. If you have a fireplace that isn't used, consider opening it up and using logs a log fire is such a treat on a cold evening. If you have rooms that aren’t often used, be sure that the doors remain closed and don't heat rooms that aren't in daily use. If necessary utilize space heaters to boost colder areas of your home or room. If you have central heating set the timer appropriately - don't heat the house when you're out at work or in the middle of the night. Study your home and see where heat might escape and check that you're not paying for heating that quickly escapes from your home. Furnishings can go a long way to making your home seem to be cozy and warm. A few colorful throws in warm colors can have a visual effect and can be used to snuggle into when the temperature drops. My Minimal Way to Keep Fit and Healthyposted on 17 December 2012 in Health and BeautyToday it should be easier than ever to be fit and healthy but for some reason, it's harder than ever. Why is this? Probably there are two major reasons. They are the labor-saving devices we all have at our fingertips, plus the easy availability of foods that are processed and laden with chemicals. There are two main ways to stay fit and healthy - good food and exercise - and both of these factors can be easily added to your daily routine. Let's start with food. We all know what we should eat and what we shouldn't eat. We know which foods we should eat in moderation. I developed a solution to this several years ago. At lunch, I have a 'good’ meal. For dinner I eat what I want - always keeping good food to the forefront of my mind though. This means that lunch is often fruit, salad vegetables and cheese. Served with a few crackers, this is filling and ensures that I get my daily fruit and vegetable requirements. In the evening, I often cook a pasta dish. By choosing good ingredients with no additives, the meals I cook are chemical-free. By not eating meat, I greatly reduce my fat and calorie intake. What about activity? This can be harder than eating the right food. It's easy to jump into the car to go to the store that's only a quarter of an hour's walk away. It's easy to vacuum the floors instead of sweeping them with a broom. I've realized that it's not necessary to join a gym or go on special exercising routines. Just by adding more physical activity to your day by refusing to use labor-saving devices all the time adds a lot of activity to everyday life. More tips on optimal health can be found on Dr Ruben Seetharamdoo's website. |

New Ideas: What a Great Concept for a Restaurantposted on 11 December 2012 in Home and GardenI remember holidaying in Brisbane a few years back and finding a restaurant there called "Home from Home". It's concept was simple - the restaurant looked like a normal house with the usual soft furnishings and Baumhaus hardwood furniture. It was small, it had a living room and a dining room, with enough room for about 8 to 10 guests at a time. You plonked yourself anywhere where there was room, and you ordered your food (just like a normal restaurant). You could wander into the kitchen (which truly was a normal kitchen) and watch your food being cooked there too. You could chat to the chef. The food arrived and you ate. You could watch the TV (with consensus from the other guests as to what channel to watch), and you couldn't help but "mingle" with the guests as the atmosphere there was one of "shared accommodation" - almost like a student flat - very interesting concept. There is a possibility of having benefits while seeking for a jobposted on 11 December 2012 in Business and FinanceWhen the government is aware of the fact that you are seeking for employment and you have papers to support your qualification, they give a priority. You have access to the benefits of jsa allowances, which they normally refer to as unemployment benefits. These benefits are meant to cover for all of your expenses in between the period when you will be seeking for a job up to the time when you will secure yourself a good job. These benefits are meant to help you in your day to day needs, but you have to prove that you are actively seeking for an employment if you have to benefit from the job seekers allowances. Keep in mind that this is only for a short period of time it does not last for long. You will have to get yourself a good job that will sustain you for a longer time compared to the allowances, because they are normally given with age. The department for work and pensions gives you these allowances up to the time that you will secure yourself a good job that is almost permanent so that the portion of the money you were getting will help somebody else that is not employed. |

On How We Got Tiles in Our Bathroomposted on 4 December 2012 in Home and GardenOnce upon a time, my wife dropped a vase on our toilet. That impact made a very small crack. I guess it looked harmless. Turns out that was not the case. About 6 months later she notices a very small puddle under the tank. This is when I discovered the toilet rocked just a little when you sat on it. This caused a little drip. Then I noticed that each time you flush, a table spoon or so of water trickeled from the aforementioned crack, down the bowl into the hole where the johnny bolts go. This, over 6 months, softened our floor. I went down to my local Graham Plumbers Merchant to get the necessary tools, and I pulled the toilet and removed the subflooring with a claw hammer. Luckily the damage was confined to the subflooring as the joists were actually dry. I proceeded to cut the damage out square and replace with new subflooring. We had to look at this patch for a few months until we saved up for new tile. Once completed the floor looks great and we did replace the drippy toilet. How Group Studying with a Studious Friend Benefitsposted on 22 November 2012 in Business and FinanceMy exams were 3 weeks away and there were something's which me and my friends confused about, hence we planned for a group study session at Sara's place. Sara was a good at studies especially at anatomy. We chose to study at Sara's place also because here she won't let us chat and gossip while studies. I and Zahra went to Sara's place at 10 am she was up and already gone through the chapter which she will be explaining to us. We started off with studies right away, without wasting a second. Sara explained the skull really well. She had all the names of bones learnt by heart. And she also made us learn very quickly, she told us the ways of learning the names of bones and joints. We moved to physiology and biochemistry important topics for viva. Neurology turned out to be the bugging one. We took a break for lunch, and her brother, business student, told us about his new teacher who was explained him the chapter 'your rights consumer' a lively chat with her brother unsaturated our mind and gave us a fresh start to the second session of out study. Use the new invention in the marketposted on 22 November 2012 in TechnologyWhen using your password, there are so many things which you should put in mind. Some of these things are such as how many people you would like to access your account, and if it is possible to hide some information so that it is only accessed by you. There are certain developments that have come up concerning passwords, because now they have made them available through wireless connections. This is a password that is saved immediately it has been fed into the system. So you do not have to keep on typing it each time you open your account. A wireless password is actually easier to memorize that the other connected passwords, because it is saved immediately, so you wont have to keep on remembering it. The only problem is that you might not believe the end result since anybody can have access to your information, because all they will have to do is click on the connect button. Ensure that your wireless connection is safe, and nobody else can access it, so that you are sure of whatever information you have stored as private and confidential. |

About My No Hassle Car Purchaseposted on 15 November 2012 in Cars and TransportIt really is amazing what you can buy online these days - my friend recently bought Sunbeam car parts for his classic car for example. As for me - well, I recently purchased a used Lexus RX 300 from CarVision.com and it was a rather pleasant experience. I first did research on what type of car I wanted (in this case a luxury SUV). Then I searched the web in order to get some idea on the price range that I could expect for this type of vehicle with between 20,000 and 30,000 miles. After doing my research I went on to several different “no hassle” car sales sites. I searched carvision.com, carmax.com and carsence.com to name a few. After reviewing each of them and comparing their prices and inventory of vehicles, I decided to visit carvison.com in person. I was able to set up a date and time to test drive the car with no issue at all. As soon as I go there, the staff was very helpful and I was driving shortly after that. After the test drive they answered any and all questions that I had and noted any issues that I have with the vehicle. From there it was just a matter of doing paperwork since the price was non-negotiable. If negotiating the price on a car is not your cup of tea, this is the way to go.Other Sources: instructables.com | movieroomreviews.com | www.rattrayspares.co.uk |

My Gratitude for Great IT Tech Supportposted on 12 November 2012 in TechnologyI consider myself a moderately computer savvy person. I know where the on and off switch is. I know that a mouse is not really a mouse. I like to stay on top of technology. It makes me feel like a part of humanity. What an exercise in humility was it, then, when I tried hooking up wireless internet in my house. I read the instructions, hooked up everything like I was supposed to, but no internet! Thank goodness for the IT support of my cable company, Time Warner. I called them. I was only on hold for a few seconds before a young man spoke to me. He was very patient with me every step of the way. He helped me fix whatever was disconnected. Now, not only does the desktop PC have internet, but people with mobile devices can use it too! I don't know what I would have done without that great IT support. My brother also works in IT support in Nottingham and it's also interesting to see both sides of IT support (as a customer, from my brother's side).Further Reading: slideshare.net | metacafe.com | typepad.com More Info: fanpop.com |

She Crab Soup Is The Perfect Way To Warm Up In Winterposted on 6 November 2012 in Food and DrinkMy favorite food is she-crab soup. It is made from female crabs when they are pregnant. Something about pregnancy changes their flavor, giving this soup a very unique taste. It is even better when you put a little bit of sherry in it. It just sweetens it a little. I always order this dish when I go out to eat in the winter. I'm even hoping to hire Maverick Venues who can make this dish at my wedding later this year. I've tried to make it at home before but it has never really turned the same as when it's made by a restaurant. The thicker it is, the better it tastes but when I make it, it just comes out all watery, not very nice. If you haven't tried this soup before, give it a go next time you're in a restaurant that serves it. It is most common to find on the east coast of the US but I'm sure there are some places on the west coast that serve it also.Further Research: uncoverthenet.com | expedia.com |

Shrunken Ground Under Front Porch Provides Shelter for a Smelly Guestposted on 19 October 2012 in Home and GardenThere is a problem with the garden next to my front porch. In recent years, we have experienced long dry summers, and as a result, the clay soil beneath the concrete slab of my porch has receded considerably. In fact, we're thinking of ripping out the marshalls paving slabs and getting ourselves a wooden gazebo instead. Why? This has created a void under the porch which, unfortunately, provided a home last winter for a skunk. My challenge at the moment is figuring out a way to keep the skunk out without causing any damage to the porch. Should the ground beneath the porch ever expand, I will need to ensure that fill material does not cause the porch to crack. Alternatively, I might be able to install a series of heavy rocks on the ground next to the edge of the porch. This would avoid any danger of cracking while denying the skunk access. I plan to take care of this before winter sets in.More on this Topic: microsofttranslator.com | flickr.com | nationalgeographic.com |

A Fear of the Dentistposted on 17 October 2012 in Internet RelatedI am the type of person who is very fearful of the dentist. I will avoid going at all costs, and will justify the fact that I missed a couple appointments and will dread making them up. Did I mention that I devise marketing strategies for dental practices by the way? Yes, it's somewhat ironic as to what my job involves here. Anyway, I recently went to the dentist last week and only had a cleaning and an xray of a tooth that I know there is a problem with because it is becoming discolored. I was pleasantly surprised with the fact that the hygienist was pleased with my teeth, and stated that hygiene-wise they were good. The xray on the front tooth did reveal a cavity and I will be going back tomorrow to have it fixed. I am not looking forward to it as I know I will need a shot in the front of my mouth which hurts very badly. I know I will be glad when it is over, and hopefully will stick to a schedule in the future.More on this Topic: cnn.com | enotes.com | cbsnews.com Further Sources: cracked.com | wunderground.com | beyonddiet.com |

Finding that place where you can be heardposted on 15 October 2012 in TechnologyTiffany was feeling down and she could not put her finger on the problem. She had tried to talk to her mother countless times, but she came back home late and was too tired to listen to her. Even though she tried to hear her out, she would fall asleep before Tiffany finished her story. She did not know that her daughter was having a hard time coping with her work. In the beginning, she had only one job and so managed to spend a lot of time with Tiffany. Now a day would be too expensive for her to spend lazing around home. Tiffany on the other hand knew that her mother had to do two jobs for them to survive. But knowing that her need to talk about her problems was too big to ignore, she started looking for a site on thehelpline.com which could answer her needs. Even if she had to make up a story on IT matters, it would still start the conversation. She did not need someone to tell her that she was exaggerating. What she wanted was someone to listen to her and help her find support for this time in her life. Further Reading: wnd.com | flickr.com | thefreedictionary.com | shopzilla.com |

Secure your self and your money from fraudstersposted on 12 October 2012 in Business and FinanceFraud cases are becoming more and more popular by the day this is because of the rising technological advancements in the internet field, making it almost impossible for people to operate their own websites. What is creating complications is the rising crime of online fraudsters who want to exploit online customers from all available operating websites. A good example of a website which has been dealing with fraud crimes for long time now is the dhss benefit fraud website. This has led to the creation of a dhss benefits fraud account that you sign in to so that you can protect yourself from falling under their prey. There is also an available helpline which is meant to help you contact your services immediately you suspect a fraud case. This has helped in the reduction of such cases, but still the company owning the website is insisting on people taking measures before they fall under the same trap. Many fraud cases are being dealt with in court, making it easier to trap those who are still practicing such illegal acts. |

Your health insurance matters a lotposted on 9 October 2012 in Business and FinanceHave you ever thought that applying for insurance is a benefit? If not it is time you fix your thoughts to getting yourself a health insurance card. This will be very beneficial not only for you but also for your loved ones. When one thinks of benefitsagency insurance benefits, they tend to think of how much money they will be using in order to benefit from the card. It is not always going to be all about the money you are using but how much you are saving when you have an insured health card with you. There are benefits which come with obtaining a health insurance card, first of all you will have the freedom to visit the hospital you have been insured with anytime you get sick, and your card will cater for all the medical bills. You can also use your card to help those in your family who are sick, and it will all be under the insurance card. Health issues tend to use a lot of money, because all the time you have to buy medicine and take care of those who are ill at home. But if you have a health insurance card, you have all those expenses catered for as you pay in installments. It is cheaper with an insurance card compared to when you do not have one. The Last Thing You Need Is To Worry About The Cost Of A Funeralposted on 27 September 2012 in Business and FinanceWhen someone dies who is close to you in your life, it is one of the worst feelings a human can go through.  If you have not experienced it, then it can't be explained until you go through it yourself.  It is soul- destroying and so painful that nothing can make you feel any better, only time.  Some people not only have the trauma of going through loosing their loved one, they also worry if they will have enough to give a good send-off for deceased.  There are death grants available but not to everyone who applies.  It is worth going to your local benefit or even checking online to see if you come under the requirements of being able to apply.  If someone you know is worrying about how they are going to meet the cots of a funeral and are struggling, you may want to let them know that they maybe entitled to some help to take the pressure from them at such an awful time. Children Love to Spend Time Alone at Homeposted on 26 September 2012 in UncategorisedVince got home from school and turned on the tv. He tuned into a channel where there was a person speaking for parental rights. Vince did not watch it all the way through because he realized that there was a football match being telecasted live on a sports channel. He quickly changed the channel and tuned into the match. He loved to watch football and chose watching it over anything else. He was happy that he got to watch the live match and plus there was no disturbance around the house. He was alone at home and could watch anything he wanted. After 5 minutes he heard the door open. His mother had returned from work. He was wondering why his mother returned from work early that day. He thought that she would ask him to turn off the television and make him to his room and study. But she did no such thing. She had come home early as she was feeling unwell. She told him that and went to her room to get some rest.Other Sources: instructables.com | movieroomreviews.com | www.parentalrightshelpline.com Further Reading: apple.com | cnbc.com | huffingtonpost.com | reddit.com |

Here's Why I Love My Favorite Black Dressposted on 23 September 2012 in FashionMy favorite ladies fashion item is a simple black dress. I can wear it with any of my ladies shoes and it always compliments my footwear. I originally bought it to wear to a late Summer wedding. I wore it there and got lots of compliments. Since then, I have worn it to many, many other occasions. I have found that it is great to wear in the summer since it's sleeveless and a light material. It is also great to wear in the winter time because it is a little bit longer and is a dark color. In the summer I wear it alone, or with a light sweater or scarf. In the winter I can wear it with tights and a thicker sweater. I am a teacher and I love to wear it to school sometimes. It makes me feel a little bit dressed up, but it's still comfortable! I would buy another one if I could! - in fact I'd love one for every day of the week!Other Sources: apple.com | babble.com | www.shoezone.comOther Sources: wellsfargo.com | rottentomatoes.com | flickr.com | itv.comFurther Reading: metacafe.com | usmagazine.com | thefreedictionary.com | city-data.comMore on this Topic: rottentomatoes.com | mapquest.com | shopzilla.comFurther Reading: mashable.com | cnbc.com | discovery.comFurther Research: huffingtonpost.com | goodreads.com More on this Topic: telegraph.co.uk | lifehacker.com | newsvine.com | movieroomreviews.com |

DIY: Let's Turn the Garage into an Officeposted on 16 September 2012 in Construction and IndustrialI love DIY and being "hands on", and I think that's reflected in my current job as an electric motor rewinds engineer. And so as to DIY, I love planning and getting on with new projects around the home - the next one being my garage. Our garage is basically wasted space. There's a lot of room down there, and for the past twenty years or so, we've just been using it for storage. (Really more like a catch-all for clutter.) There was a time, long long ago, when my father would have band practice down there but as more and more boxes of stuff were put in the garage, there was eventually barely room to even walk. So the band started practicing at another guy's house, instead. Imagine standing at the top of the stairs, overlooking a sea of stuff. Piles of toys, books, and broken electronics towering six feet high, with a thin path leading to the fuse box. Well, I got to thinking of all sorts of things we could do with the space, like I could have an office or an art studio down there. Currently, I work out of my bedroom, but there's not a lot of space to set aside drying sculptures and paintings. So I thought it would be nice to set up an area that felt more professional. I wouldn't need the entire space, though, so most of it could be used for something else. Or, I suppose, it could continue as a storage space albeit in a more orderly manner. But before it could get to that point, there's a lot of work that would need to be done to the place. There's a big gap under the garage doors, which provides entrance for mice, bugs, spiders, and even snakes. (I don't know where they came in from, but we even found that termites had eated through a few boxes.) Then there's the giant crack in the cement floor. And we would need to install heating and cooling, so that it's not freezing in the winter and sweltering in the summer. But before any of that, there's the issue of all of the garbage down there. Broken electronics, moldy books, childhood memories ruined by twenty years of mice, etc. So far, my mother and I have spent two weeks cleaning out the garage. We've taken care of all of the garbage, and organized what's left (mainly my father's belongings, which he wants to sort himself) into categories such as books, electronics, rocks (yes, the man collects rocks), records and eight-tracks, etc. Now that most of the clutter has been taken care of, the next order of business should be a thorough cleaning, since there's still twenty years of filth. After that, we should try to seal off all the places wherein uninvited creatures can enter the basement. And then do something to repair the major crack in the floor. (It's so wide, that I could probably fit my hand in there.) Next, we have to do something about the garage doors, which have recently broken. I'd like to just take them out, and put a wall there. Perhaps with a window, and a much smaller door. Something like a big shop window, to display my artwork might be nice. It wouldn't hurt to call an exterminator, either, for what I've identified as a brown recluse infestation. (But that's the entire house, not just the garage.) The heating and cooling will be the easy part. There's still quite a bit of work to do, but one day we will have a very nice space in the garage. Or we could, you know, park cars in there. |
